SPRINGFIELD, Ore. –
Dylan Carson broke a 27-year old Cascade Conference record with four home runs in the opener and finished with an eight-hit, 12 RBI day to lead Bushnell to a dominant sweep of Warner Pacific University, winning 21-1 and 16-3 in a pair of run-rule victories.
Â
"Today was an awesome bounce-back by our whole team," said Head Coach
Jamie Womack. "It really felt like we carried the final three innings from game two on Friday into today and put together two complete games. I can't say enough about
Dylan Carson's day, he was incredible.
Â
Carson added, "We had two great team wins today. I am super proud of how we were able to bounce back and now we need to keep playing our brand of baseball."
Â
GAME ONE: Bushnell 21, Warner Pacific 1 (7 Innings)
Â
Last season the Beacons established team records with a 17-0 win over Warner Pacific, and they topped themselves on Saturday, scoring the most runs and the largest margin of victory in Bushnell history.
Â
The offense also produced new records for hits (21) and RBI (20) in a game, led in large part to the bat of Carson, who finished 5-for-5 at the dish, earning a new school record with nine RBI. His day included a two-run homer in the first, three-run shot in the third, single in the fourth, three-run shot in the fifth and solo bomb to cap it off in the sixth.
Â
Nate Stevens and
Davis Grawey joined the party with three hits apiece, including a pair of doubles for Grawey, while
Max Richards, Jaden Thompson, and
Mana Heffernan each had a pair of hits.
Â
The Beacon pitchers were just as stellar as the bats supporting them, led by a six-inning, eight-strike out day for
Kai Keamo (1-1). The senior starter allowed just two hits and one run, his lone blemish being a solo homer to Trenten Lowe in the top of the third inning. Keamo now leads the CCC and is 11th in the NAIA with 31 strikeouts this season in 18 innings.Â
Jacob Wood and
Mason Koontz closed things out with a hit-less seventh inning as Koontz needed to throw just one pitch to close out the game. Â Â
Â
GAME TWO: Bushnell 16, Warner Pacific 3 (7 Innings)
Â
The lumber continued to do the heavy lifting in game two as the Beacons scored in every inning, collecting another 19 hits. Carson didn't relent in the night cap, hitting 3-for-4 with three RBI, including an RBI single in the first and his fifth homer on the day, a two-run blast in the second.
Â
Bushnell collected three total home runs on the day as
Josh Miyazawa and
Nigel Fahland connected. Miyazawa went 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI, while Fahland finished his day hitting 3-for-4 with three RBI and his first career dinger. Â Heffernan and Grawey continued their strong days with two more hits apiece as well.
Â
On the mound, it was
Loreto Siniscalchi (1-1) claiming the victory as he struck out four batters and gave up three earned runs in four innings of work.
Dylan Ha added two scoreless innings while
Chase Marshall pitched a no-hit seventh to close out the victory.
With Carson's epic day at the plate, he now leads the NAIA with nine home runs and ranks fourth in the nation with 26 RBI.Â
Â
UP NEXT: The Beacons (10-6, 2-1 CCC) find themselves in an early tie for first-place in the CCC and will play host to another 2-1 school next weekend as the NAIA's No. 10-ranked University of British Columbia pays a visit to Hamlin Sports Complex. The teams will play a double-header on Friday beginning at 2:00 pm, followed by a single game at 11:00 am on Saturday. Â Â
Â
Coach Womack said, "We had so many contributors on all sides of the ball today and now we need to harness this feeling and competitiveness and bring it with us into a very important series next weekend."
