KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Northwest University women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over Bushnell University on Friday afternoon in an evenly matched contest.
Â
Bushnell (3-5-2, 2-4 CCC) match the Eagles shot-for-shot and had more second-half opportunities, but were only able to find the back of the net once as Northwest (4-3-1, 3-2-1) prevailed.
Â
Head Coach
Toni Malone said, "Today was a tough loss. We battled but struggled to put away our chances. Northwest capitalized on a mistake from us and were awarded a penalty kick shortly after. At the end of the day, we have to be more clinical in front of goal and limit the mistakes that cost us. We will learn from this one and keep moving forward."
Â
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles broke through in the 69th minute as Jersey Walker scored off a pass from Taryn Demers. They would add the game-winner in the 78th as Talia Hurst scored on a penalty kick.
Â
The Beacons were able to avoid the shutout with just over three minutes to play when
Charlotte Vandercar (pictured) headed in a free kick from
Ohu Miles. "Ohu played a great ball in off a set piece," said Malone, "and Charlotte did a fantastic job finishing it with her head. It was a great goal."
Â
UP NEXT: Bushnell remains in Washington on Saturday and will face Evergreen State (0-6-2, 0-5-1) at 12:30 pm.
