EUGENE, Ore. – A strong resolve kept the Bushnell men's basketball team in the contest until late Friday afternoon, but Lewis-Clark State College was able to hang on for a 12-point victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
Â
Bushnell (7-7, 4-3 CCC) was held to 36% shooting and were never able to shake off a slow start that saw them trailing 34-28 at halftime. The Warriors (11-4, 5-2) kept the Beacons at bay over the final 20 minutes, despite the home team climbing to within three points on a pair of occasions.
Â
"LC really limits your offensive touches," said Head Coach
Eddie Alexander, "requiring you to be very efficient offensively. We had too many lazy possessions and missed opportunities at the rim today. We did not earn the right to win this game unfortunately." Â Â Â
Â
The Beacons were led in defeat by
Cory Johnson, scoring 15 points while
Kaleb Burnett and
Ashton Harvey (pictured) connected on 12 points apiece with Harvey leading the team with seven rebounds. The Beacons were out-rebounded in the contest 43-39 but did bring down 15 on the offensive glass, leading to a 13-9 advantage in second-chance scoring. The home team also led 34-32 in the paint.
Â
The Warriors (11-4, 5-2), currently receiving votes in the NAIA national coaches poll, shot 43% in the game and were 16-for-18 at the free-throw line. Leading the team was Jamare' Childs, scoring 18 points as he shot 4-for-6 from three-point range. Peyton Nordland added 14 points while Grayson Hunt came off the bench to register a double-double, scoring ten points with 12 rebounds.
Â
Alexander added, "I am searching for a way to create an environment where our desire for greatness pushes us to do the hard stuff when no one is watching. When you want something uncommon, you must be willing to do the uncommon. We love our guys and our team and we will keep working to be our best every day."
Â
UP NEXT: The Beacons will aim to rebound on Saturday night when they play host to Walla Walla University at 8:00 pm. The Wolves (0-12, 0-6) were defeated by Corban University on Friday afternoon, 98-64.
