EUGENE, Ore. – A winless Walla Walla men's basketball team proved to be a worthy adversary on Saturday night, shooting over 50% and forcing the Bushnell men's basketball team to come back in the second half to earn an 83-77 victory.
Bushnell (8-7, 5-3 CCC) trailed by six points, 44-38, at the intermission, but came out hot in the second half, tying the game at 52-52. Redshirt sophomore
Kaleb Burnett, as he is apt to do, took over the game over the final 20 minutes, scoring 23 of his career-high 30 points. It was Burnett who gave the Beacons the lead for good at the 12-minutes mark with a three-point play, part of a stretch in which he scored ten straight points for the good guys.
Burnett ended the night with a double-double, adding 14 rebounds to his career night.
Cory Johnson added 17 points while
Roy Bunn (pictured) came up with 14 points and a team-high three assists.
Ashton Harvey scored seven points and chipped in nine rebounds, playing 38 minutes as he had to deal with one of the most imposing post threats in the Cascade Conference.
The Wolves (0-14, 0-8) were led by that threat; seven-footer Soren Dalan. The junior did not come off the court on Saturday night, scoring 24 points, adding nine rebounds and five blocked shots. Dalan was balanced out by starting point-guard Reese Snellman, also playing 40 minutes. Snellman, who averages 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists per game nearly secured a triple-double for the Wolves with 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, adding three steals.
UP NEXT: The Beacons hope to take the momentum onto the road next weekend as they take on reigning NAIA National Champion College of Idaho on Friday at 6:30 pm Pacific Time. The Yotes (10-6, 5-3) find themselves tied with the Beacons for fifth-place in the CCC after back-to-back losses at Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech this weekend in which they gave up over 95 points per game.
