Beacons Drop Tight Battle with Eagles

KIRKLAND, Wash. – An even contest featuring 11 ties and ten lead changes came down to the wire with the Northwest University men's basketball team escaping with a 91-85 victory over Bushnell on Friday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

Bushnell (10-10, 7-6) shot 46% in the game and allowed the Eagles (7-14, 4-9) to hit 53% from the field as Northwest pulled away in the final five minutes.

Head Coach Eddie Alexander said, "We lacked defensive focus and transition effort in the first half and that is why we didn't get it done tonight. We gave NU confidence and when you are at home with confidence you become very hard to beat. Too many missed details tonight. I am disappointed, but we need to bounce back and be ready to go. These teams are fighting for their playoff life and we need to play with the same sense of urgency."

Cory Johnson hit four of Bushnell's six three-pointers and scored 19 points, one of four Beacons in double-figures on the night. Kaleb Burnett added a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds while Isaiah Wallace came off the bench to score 16 and Roy Bunn added 12.

Northwest was led by a 19-point effort from Lucius Fox while Christian Watkins added 18 points and seven assists.

UP NEXT: The Beacons will look to bounce back on Saturday as they take on Evergreen State (3-12, 3-10) at 5:00 pm in Olympia.
