INDEPENDENCE, Ore. – The Bushnell men's cross country team took seventh-place on Friday evening, competing at the Ash Creek Festival, hosted by Western Oregon University.
Head Coach
Kyle Will said, "Given our circumstances with some injuries and illness, I was very pleased. We had good stuff today. Logan and Sayer had a great race and Miguel hit a PR. Overall I'm happy with the way everyone raced.
Continuing to ease into the season with a 6000-meter race, shy of the official NAIA distance of 8000m, the Beacons were led by
Logan Gant taking 51st place with a time of 20 minutes, 38.5 seconds.
CJ Long followed in 57th (21:15.70),
Sayer Pescosolido (pictured) was 61st (21:30.70), and
Miguel Ramirez was 66th (22:19.10) to account for the Beacon scoring.
Pescosolido said, "For a hot evening race, I saw grit and work ethic from my teammates. I was proud to see everyone pick each other up and move forward. It shows that we are capable of withstanding great adversity."
Ramirez added, "I had a bad season opener in my opinion, so coming into this race I knew I wanted to beat my last time and perform well. I started off fast but tried staying conservative and ended up in no mans land. I pushed through and tried to stick with the pack in front of me. I struggled the final 2K but having my teammates and friends motivate me helped push through the finish line for a PR."
Freshmen
Ben Patterson (71st, 22:32.80) and
Lennox Zebroski (85th, 31:16.90) also competed for Bushnell.
Up Next: The Beacons return to the Ash Creek Preserve in two weeks when they will compete in the Mike Johnson Classic, also hosted by Western Oregon University.
