Amaral Walks off a Bushnell Sweep

EUGENE, Ore. – Kolby Amaral hit a walk-off Grand Slam to cap a double-header sweep as Bushnell defeated Eastern Oregon University twice on Friday, 6-3 and 10-0.

The top pitching staff in the Cascade Conference continued to exert their dominance of CCC foes giving up just one earned run, while the offense provided plenty of fire power with 16 hits.

"Great effort from our pitching staff today," said head coach Jamie Womack. "I am really proud of the bounce-back performances from Wolfe and Proud while Rasmussen and Sachs continue to be great options out of the pen. It felt like we left a lot of opportunity on the bases, but I loved Chase Nye's effort out of the leadoff spot."

GAME ONE: Bushnell 6, Eastern Oregon 3

Austin Wolfe got the start for the Beacons in the opener and allowed just two unearned runs over four innings while striking out six batters.

The Mounties took a 3-2 lead in the fifth, which brought Nate Rasmussen (2-0) out of the pen for another strong extended outing as the senior shut down EOU, scattering three hits over the rest of the game to keep his season-long ERA at 0.00 with a Bushnell-record 13.2 scoreless innings.

The Beacons tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a squeeze bunt from Ethan Stacy that scored Nye. The top of the sixth brought two more runs on back-to-back RBI singles by Reece Carganilla and Nye, and the Beacons added an insurance run in the seventh on a Max Richards single.

Nye finished the game hitting 2-for-3 and the sophomore tied a Beacon single-game record with three stolen bases. Carganilla and Jordan Wilson each had two hits as well for the home team.

EOU collected seven hits in the game including a pair from Trevor Baker who was 2-for-2 with two walks. In his eighth start of the season, Shane Sinclair (0-3) struck out six batters in 5.1 innings of work, allowing four earned runs on six hits.

GAME TWO: Bushnell 10, Eastern Oregon 0 (8 innings)

A seven run eighth inning, capped off by Amaral's grand slam, propelled the Beacons to their fourth shutout of the season as Braden Proud (2-0) and Ethan Sachs combined on a four-hitter, scattering four singles.

Coach Womack said, "I was so happy Kolby got to have that moment, but more importantly, sending us out with the ten-run rule win saved another arm from having to enter the game for us in the ninth, giving us a little strong bullpen for Saturday."

Proud went five innings and Sachs closed out the final three to claim his third save of the season.

Bushnell scored their ten runs on just six hits and had just two hits in the seven-run eighth, a two-run double from Will Hudler and the Amaral slam.

Albert Jennings also had a home run in the first inning, his fifth of the season, part of a 2-for-3 game.

UP NEXT: Bushnell (25-6, 15-4 CCC), who jumped into second-place in the CCC with Lewis-Clark State idle, will close out their four-game series with Eastern Oregon (9-21, 5-14) on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 am.
