SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Bushnell baseball team won their seventh consecutive series to start the season on Sunday, taking down Warner Pacific University with a record breaking 17-0 take down.
Â
Bushnell (23-5, 13-4 CCC), in their fourth year as a program, tied a record with their 17 runs scored and made it a new standard for margin of victory as they blanked the Knights for their third shutout of the season, also a record. Â
Â
In addition, the Beacons set a new record with eight doubles and tied the school mark with 11 walks. Their 13th Cascade Conference win of the season also sets a new gold standard after taking 12 CCC victories a year ago.
Â
The Bushnell offense pounded out a total of 16 hits in the game with ten going for extra bases. Senior Catcher
Kolby Amaral did the most damage, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and three doubles, also setting a new Beacon record for a single game.
Â
Will Hudler and
Jameson Hussey each went 3-for-4 on the day with Hussey earning three RBI.
Â
Bushnell put things away early with an eight-run first inning, jump started by a three-run home run from
Jordan Wilson. His Cascade Conference-leading 11th homer of the season gives him 36 for his career, tying him with Oregon Tech's Tyler Horner. The duo are now both just three home runs shy of tying the Cascade Collegiate Conference record, which has stood for 26 years.
Â
Another outstanding offensive effort was matched by a brilliant day on the bump from
Kai Keamo (1-1) and
Ethan Sachs, who combined to strike out 12 batters and allow just four hits in the shutout. Keamo went five innings, allowing three hits with a career-high ten strikeouts and Sachs closed out the final four innings, pitching to just one over the minimum, striking out a pair and giving up a meaningless single for his second save.
Â
Head Coach
Jamie Womack said, "We came out with high energy today and stayed focused for a complete game. There were many contributors again today. Kai was great and the offense and defense backed him up. Sachs came in and finished it out strong. Hussey and Amaral had great days as well. It was a bit of a wacky weekend with the 1-2-1 setup and with a game coming up quickly on Tuesday, our recovery needs to be strong and we need to be ready to turn it around quick."
Â
UP NEXT: The Beacons, currently just a half-game out of first place in the CCC, will stay home for a non-conference game with Lewis & Clark College on Tuesday at 6:00 pm and again next weekend for another four-game Cascade Conference series, playing host to Eastern Oregon University.
