CALDWELL, Idaho – After scoring a season-high of 15 runs in game one, the Beacons fought The College of Idaho hard through all nine innings of game two. The Yotes stole game two with a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to secure their only victory against the Beacons of the four-game series.
GAME ONE: Bushnell 15, College of Idaho 6
An explosive start for Bushnell helped secure an early lead, scoring an impressive five runs in the first.
Will Hudler opened the game with a single to center field.
Ethan Stacy and
Chase Nye followed with two RBI each on their respective double and single. A sac fly by
Reece Carganilla scored the fifth and final run of the inning for the Beacons.
The College of Idaho responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, but it wasn't enough to slow down Bushnell in later innings.
Jordan Wilson led the rally in the fourth with an RBI triple, and
Cade Crist kept the momentum going with a three-run homer in the sixth.
The Yotes responded again to the Beacons in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three unearned runs. Bushnell replied with two runs in the seventh, thanks to a two-RBI single to center field from
Albert Jennings. Crist went yard again in the eighth, this time scoring a two-run homer to give him 32 all-time in his collegiate career. Wilson scored the 15th run for the Beacons with a solo home run in the ninth to also bring him 32 homers in his career.
Max Chapman (3-0) helped the Beacons secure their school-record ninth-straight win with a game one victory. Chapman claimed his third victory of the season for Bushnell while only allowing two runs for the Yotes in his 5.2 innings pitched.
Jayden Soriano,
Nate Rasmussen, and
Dylan Ha split the work in the final innings on the mound with no earned runs allowed.
GAME TWO: College of Idaho 5, Bushnell 4
Bushnell secured the first score of game two with a solo home run by
Kolby Amaral in the top of the second, his first of the season. The Yotes quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at one apiece. Amaral brought the heat again in the sixth inning on an RBI triple to give the Beacons a 2-1 lead.
The Yotes weren't ready to quit, as they produced a three-run inning to lead the Beacons 4-2 through seven.
Jacob Richardson entered the game as a pinch hitter in the eighth, and gave the Beacons a much needed two-run homer to tie things up with four scores each. In the bottom of the ninth, an RBI single with bases loaded gave the Yotes a 5-4 victory.
Kai Keamo pitched five innings in his start for the Beacons, only allowing two hits and one run.
Ethan Sachs pitched two innings for Bushnell, and
Alec Gums (1-1) earned his first loss of the year.
UP NEXT: Bushnell (20-4, 10-3 CCC) is tied for second-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Beacons will host Warner Pacific University (6-12, 5-8 CCC) next weekend at Hamlin Sports Complex for a four-game series, starting Friday at 2:00 pm.
