Saints Win Marathon to Clinch Series

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A three-hour game with no rain delays ended with Carroll College completing a comeback and claiming a 13-11 victory, clinching the weekend series with the Beacons. The scheduled non-conference fourth game of the series was canceled due to rain.

Not a single rain delay was called in the contest, but steady precipitation played a major role in the game as the teams combined for 15 walks and seven errors, with 24 combined hits.

The third inning alone went for nearly an hour as Carroll scored seven runs to take a 9-2 lead, only for the Beacons to respond with nine runs of their own to exit the frame with an 11-9 lead.

The Bushnell half of the frame featured seven hits, including RBI singles from Riley Peeler and Emily Cole, a two-run double off the bat of Kenworthy, and a three-run double from Richardson.

The Saints would not be deterred, however, tying the game in the fifth inning on a two-run double from Morgan Sunchild. A run on an error and a single from Kati Slater gave Carroll the lead for good in the sixth.

McKinley Ermshar (1-0) got the victory for the Saints in relief, striking out three batters in 4.1 scoreless innings.

For the Beacons, Sara Martin threw into the third inning and came back to close out the game, finishing with just one earned run allowed over 3.2 innings. For the Saints, ten of their 13 runs in the game were unearned due to six errors in the game by the Beacons.

Emily Cole (2-8) took the loss, giving up four runs (two earned) over 3.1 innings of work.

Bushnell collected 14 total hits in the loss with Kenworthy leading the way, batting 4-for-5 with four runs batted in. Richardson went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI while Gracie Hamilton batted 2-for-3.

UP NEXT: The Beacons (6-13, 1-8 CCC) hit the road next weekend for Klamath Falls, where they will take on No. 2 Oregon Tech in a four-game series. Carroll (7-12, 4-5) will return to Helena, where they play host to Corban.
