Tech Ends Bushnell Winning Streak at Eight

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon Tech pounded out 18 hits on Saturday, taking the third game of a three-game CCC-opening series 9-8 and ending Bushnell's school-record eight-game winning streak in the process.

The Cardiac Kids almost pulled off another improbable comeback as Bushnell (9-2, 2-1 CCC), who trailed 8-3 heading into the seventh-inning stretch, scored five straight runs to tie the game, only to have a messy ninth inning cost the Beacons a sweep.

Seven different Bushnell players had a hit on Saturday, including home runs from both Will Hudler (his third of the season) and Ethan Stacy (his second).

The Owls (8-4, 1-2) were led by Keanu Mizuta who went 4-for-5 with three RBI and three doubles, scoring twice. Patrick Barry got four hits, putting an exclamation mark on a Cascade Collegiate Conference record-tying 28-game hitting streak. The senior hasn't gone hitless since March 31 of last season against Lewis-Clark State.

A 9-8 score wouldn't normally indicate a pitcher's duel, but that is precisely how the contest began. For the Owls, Isaac Hill worked into the sixth inning, striking out five batters and giving up just two earned runs on four hits. For Bushnell, Max Chapman pitched six innings and struck out four batters.

From there it was a battle of the bullpens as Noah Loew (1-0) went 1.1 innings of one-hit ball for OIT, getting the better of Bushnell's Tyler Biddinger (1-0) who allowed just an unearned run as the Owls took advantage of two Beacon errors in the top of the ninth.

UP NEXT: Bushnell will hit the road next weekend for Portland, becoming the first team to visit CCC newcomer Warner Pacific (3-3, 1-2), playing their home games at Milwaukie High School.
