REDDING, Calif. – The Bushnell men's basketball team put an end to a three-game losing skid on Saturday, taking care of business against Cal Maritime, winning 97-73 at the Simpson University Invitational.
Â
The Beacons (3-4) shot nearly 60% from the field, out-rebounded CMA 33-24, and went deep as they scored 54 points off the bench. The Beacons hit 14 three-pointers in the game, and kept themselves to single-digit turnovers for the second night in a row.
Â
Bushnell was led off the bench by
Keenan Reckamp as the Freshman broke out with a 20-point performance, hitting 5-for-7 from three-point range. "I feel like it was our overall aggressiveness on both ends that helped us tonight," said Reckamp. "We got in the passing lates, got deflections and caused disruption so that we could get out in transition to put everyone in good spots to make plays and execute."
Â
Cory Johnson added 16 points for the Beacons while
Kaleb Burnett scored a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Burnett said, "We have been in a little bit of a slump and we were frustrated, but our leadership really stepped up. Guys like Isaiah really brought us energy from tip-off until the last buzzer sounded. We play with passion and we don't quit, and I think if we continue to play as hard as we are capable of, we'll see a lot more results like tonight."
Â
Jacob Martinez joined the double-figure party with 11 points while
Isaiah Wallace added ten. Starting point guard
Roy Bunn chipped in seven points and led all players with four assists and three steals.
Â
The Keelhaulers (4-2) were led by Lawrence Long, scoring 15 points. Nick Stone added 11 while Sam Adhikary came off the bench to post ten.
Â
UP NEXT: The Beacons will be off for the Thanksgiving holiday week, returning to action for the start of Cascade Collegiate Conference play on December 2 when they head to Salem to take on Corban University at 7:30 pm. Â
