GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Bushnell men's basketball team closed out the Providence Classic on Saturday, coming out on the wrong side of a 82-66 decision to Montana State University Northern.
Â
The Beacons (1-1) lost despite out-rebounding the Lights 38-31 including a 17-3 margin in offensive boards. That translated to a 19-5 advantage in second-chance scoring, but the Beacons shot just 35% in the game, and were never able to overcome an early deficit.
Â
"We struggled to put the ball in the basket today," said Head Coach
Eddie Alexander, "but regardless we needed to execute better defensively. We didn't stick to the scouting report and when that happens, teams get comfortable. We let them play too comfortable today."
Â
Rylan Donovan came off the bench to lead the Beacons in scoring on Saturday with 22 points, shooting 10-for-16 from the field.
Kaleb Burnett added 12 points and seven rebounds while
Cory Johnson finished with nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Â
MSUN (2-1) was led by 24 points from Austin Ramos and 16 from Cinque Maxwell.
Â
Alexander added, "We need to utilize this loss as a learning opportunity and get better as some details this week."
Â
UP NEXT: The Beacons will play their home opener on Saturday, November 8 against Linfield University. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 7:30 pm.
