Beacon Men Victorious in Home Opener

EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell men's basketball team took care of business on Saturday night, defeating Linfield University 89-70 in their only non-conference home game of the season.

The Beacons (2-1) shot 51% from the field and out-rebounded the Wildcats (0-1) 42-31, pulling away in the second half after battling through three ties and a pair of lead changes early on.

Head Coach Eddie Alexander said, "We struggled in the first half defending the three but we corrected several things at halftime and the guys responded well. Kaleb Burnett had an excellent first half which kept us going through our struggles defensively and in the second half the team really responded well. I am proud of how we are fixing things mentally and it is starting to show on the floor."

Bushnell was led by Burnett who scored 19 points in the first half and finished with 25, shooting 10-for-13 from the field and adding a game-high ten rebounds for the double-double. He had five offensive boards and was single-handedly responsible for all eight of the Beacons second-chance points.

Senior Cory Johnson came off the bench to score 15 points, hitting four three-pointers while Squeeky Johnson (pictured) scored 11 points.

Linfield (0-1) was led by Chase Bennett, hitting four three-pointers and scoring a team-high 18. Logan Morrill came off the bench to score 15 in the paint on 7-for-11 shooting.

UP NEXT: The Beacons will hit the road next week for Arizona, taking on a pair of NAIA foes. First up will be a clash with Park University – Gilbert, on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
