Cervantes Carlos Lifts Beacons to Victory

EUGENE, Ore.  – Freshman Elidia Cervantes Carlos scored a brace and assisted on another goal, helping to lift the Bushnell women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Warner Pacific University on Sunday afternoon.

Head Coach Halle Meadows said, "Today was the most well rounded we have played thus far this season. Defensively and offensively the girls stuck to the game plan and did everything we have been working on. Three new goal scorers and our keeper getting two assists was just incredible. We are excited to get back to work this week and show up at home again next weekend.

Ana Augusto played the first 80 minutes between the pipes for the Beacons, giving her 170 shutout minutes on the weekend. She never needed to make a save on Sunday, but she found significant ways to contribute anyway, scoring two assists. She found Cervantes Carlos for both of the freshman's scores, catching her in stride on a pair of long free kicks in the second half.

Cervantes Carlos has had a busy season at the top for the Beacons, leading the Beacons with 39 shot attempts, but had found the back of the net just once coming into the day. "The last couple of games have been tough," she said, "but the wall was broken today! I am excited and ready for the games to come."

The Beacons had led 1-0 at halftime, as Jasmine Seago scored the only goal of the frame in the 22nd minute off a cross from Cervantes Carlos.

Freshman Ohu Miles also scored in the second half, taking a throw-in from Kenedi McDonald and one-timing the bouncer into the back of the net.

The Beacons (4-3-2, 3-2 CCC) outshot the Knights (2-7-1, 1-4) 14-11 in the contest, but held WPU without a shot-on-goal for the first 85 minutes. Their only attempt on frame came when Kelsey Cordon scored in the 85th minute, weaving her way through the Beacons backup defenders and finding the back of the net from 10-yards out.

Over the weekend, the Bushnell defensive line held strong, allowing just two shots-on-goal. Lola Rebuck, one of the centerpieces of that back line, said, "This was our best game of the season. There was consistent work from start to finish and we were able to walk away with four goals under our belt. I am extremely proud of this team for lulling off an important win at home."

UP NEXT: The Beacons remain at home next weekend and will look to win a third straight CCC game for the first time in nine years when they face Evergreen State (0-8, 0-5 CCC) on Friday at 4:30 pm.
