Men's Cross Country Nick Askew, Assistant Athletic Director for Communications

Beacons Make Strides at Willamette

COMPLETE RESULTS

SALEM, Ore.  – The Bushnell Cross Country teams competed in the largest fields they will see this season and made the most of it as they competed in the Willamette University Charles Bowles Invitational at Bush Park.

Head Coach Kyle Will said, "We had a great day in an incredibly tough field, including a lot of schools from our conference. This meet really showed where we are at, and we have some work to do, but we had some really good efforts and some PRs. We will continue to put in some good work and trust the Lord and we'll see where we go."

On the women's side, the Beacons finished 20th in a 26-team field that included five other Cascade Collegiate Conference foes. Leading the way was Cadence Smith, posting a new 5000-meter PR with a time of 18:50.60 to take 68th. Also in the top-100 with a new personal best was freshman Hailey Jackson (84th, 19:04.00).

Alyssa Clark finished 150th (20:14.40) while Audrey Sommerville (194th, 21:00.30 – PR) and Annika Kimball (219th, 21:39.50 – PR) rounded out the scoring.

Also competing were Jordan Lauinger (21:46.10), Sidney Lane (22:07.60 – PR), Karlee Myers (22:33.60 – PR), Hannah Irrgang (24:12.70 – PR), Ava Adams (24:16.20), and Charlotte Weiskind (27:35.50).

"We had a great day today with eight lifetime PRs," said Lane. "With as many teams and runners that come to this meet, it can be easy to get stuck in the pack but I think our women did a good job at racing aggressively and working together. We have a strong first couple runners and I believe if our middle pack can move up and stick together past the first half of the race, our overall team performance will improve immensely."

On the men's side, Bushnell took 27th place. Logan Gant once again led the way and added himself to the list of personal records, coming across the 8000-meter finish line in 27:06.34.

Gant said, "We always look forward to the Charles Bowles as it is consistently a fun course with a big field of competition. I am proud of the determination and grit we showed today, and encouraged as we continue to improve our performance. It is always a blessing to get out there and get after it together."

CJ Long also had a PR (28:47.41) and Sayer Pescosolido posted a season-best time of 28:48.39. Also scoring points for Bushnell were Ja White (29:45.41) and Miguel Ramirez (29:54.96).

Also running for the guys were Landyn Munyon and Andrew Bennett.

UP NEXT: After a week off, the Beacons return to action on October 18 as they travel to Independence for the George Oja Invitational. The meet is hosted by Linfield University but will also serve as the Cascade Collegiate Conference preview meet as the CCC championships will take place on the same course three weeks later.
