Dominant Win for Beacon Women

EUGENE, Ore.  – The Bushnell women's soccer team out-shot Walla Walla University 23-1 on Friday afternoon on their way to a dominant 2-0 victory over the Wolves in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

Head Coach Halle Meadows said, "We tried new things today and I was really proud of the girls for sticking to the game plan and working through the hiccups. We got a lot of opportunities and were able to put a couple away. As we continue to finish the plays, we will be able to convert more of our opportunities."

Playing at home for the first time in three weeks, the Beacons (3-3-2, 2-2 CCC) were in control from start to finish. While it took a while to finally find the back of the net, the Beacons were able to do it twice. The game-winner came in the 65th minute as Charlotte Vandercar connected off a cross from Adrie Lader. With just over five minutes remaining in the game, Stephanie Llanos gave some insurance, punching home a loose ball in the box.

Llanos said, "I am proud of how we bounced back after halftime. We came in with a must-win mentality and worked hard to create chances. In the end, it was the team's effort and focus that secured the win."

A complete defensive effort held Walla Walla (0-4, 0-4) without a single shot attempt during live action. Their only attempt came on a penalty kick in the 69th minute, with Bushnell keeper Ana Augusto denying the try from Kaitlin Mclette to preserve the clean sheet.

"Today's result was crucial," said Augusto, "and the entire team gave everything to make it happen. Still, we need to stay grounded and prepare for our next game. There is a lot of work ahead but I can say that I am proud to be part of this team."

UP NEXT: The Beacons will look to make it two in a row on Sunday when they play host to Warner Pacific University (2-6-1, 1-3) at 1:00 pm. The Knights picked up their first CCC win of the season on Friday, defeating Corban University 1-0.
