Beacon Volleyball Sweeps Geoducks

EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 23-ranked Bushnell University volleyball team won for the fifth time in their last seven matches and held onto their share of fourth-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, sweeping Evergreen State, 25-23, 25-18, 25-16.

Bushnell (16-10, 10-6 CCC) had another efficient night on the attack, hitting .274 and out-scoring the Geoducks 54-39 on points. The Beacons had a close fight on their hands early as they hit just .070 with 12 attacking errors, but rallied strong including an exclamation mark in the third set, hitting .600 as they posted 16 kills and just one error.

Head Coach Jason Corwin said, "We persevered in the first set then banked some long runs in the second and third to get the sweep. Evergreen really challenged us tonight and we rose to the occasion. 2-0 on this road trip feels good as we get ready for another important weekend coming up."

Senior Hailey Heider closed out an impressive weekend in which she averaged five kills per set, hitting .364 with 15 kills and eight digs.  "Evergreen came out playing really tough and we had a slower start," said Heider, "but once we got some momentum our front row couldn't be stopped! Our servers really put the pressure on them and allowed us to be in system."

Amyah Semau was impressive as well, hitting .471 with nine kills while Soliel Sands hit .750 with six kills and three blocks. Avery McCallister led all players with 21 assists and two aces while Chloe Farr posted a match-high 13 digs.

McCallister said, "It was a really fun and competitive game. I think we did a good job tonight having energy and playing together."

"I thought both sides played a good game and we stayed resilient," added Farr. "We stuck to our game plan and adapted like we know how to."

UP NEXT: The Beacons clinched their spot in the CCC post-season tournament on Saturday, and will next take aim at earning a top-four finish which would give them a first-round bye in the conference championships. Another huge road weekend will face Bushnell next Friday and Saturday as they travel to take on (RV) Walla Walla on Friday and third-place No. 11 Lewis-Clark State on Saturday.
