PASADENA, Calif. –
Kara Becraft laced a perfectly timed through-ball to
Stephanie Llanos (pictured, left) for a goal in the 53rd minute and that would be all the Beacons would need in a strong 1-0 victory over Pacific Union College at Civic Park on Friday.
The Beacons (2-2) snagged their second victory in a row and out-shot the Pioneers 15-7, handing PUC their first loss of the season (1-1). Second-year head coach
Halle Meadows still sees plenty of room for improvement as the Beacons continue their non-conference schedule.

"We did some good things today, and we had some good ideas, but we just couldn't fully execute today," she said. "We definitely left a few goals on the table."
The Beacons dominated the opening half of play with a 10-1 shot advantage, holding the Pios without a shot-on-goal, but weren't able to find the back of the net after numerous solid looks.
Finally, in the 53rd minute, Becraft penetrated the defense down the middle third and slotted a perfect pass to Llanos, who snuck through the back line and beat the keeper one-on-one and found the back of the line from the top of the box.
"We were able to get on the board thanks to Steph," said Coach Meadows. "Put that girl in front of the goal and she just finds a way to score every time."
Llanos said, "Our team played with great determination today, showing teamwork and persistence in the attack. We created a lot of goal-scoring opportunities and we had a lot of good ideas on the field despite some challenges with ball control."
Junior keeper Ana Carolina Augusto (pictured, above) picked up her second win of the season and first shutout, making three saves between the pipes. "It was a difficult game," she said, "but I am very proud of our team's performance and we are excited to go get more wins."
Bushnell's next opportunity will come on Saturday at 11:00 am when they play another California Pacific Conference school at home in Simpson University (0-2).
