Beacons Battle to Keep Streak Alive

PORTLAND, Ore.  – It wasn't a pretty night, but the Bushnell volleyball team did enough to keep a six-match winning streak going on Friday, taking down the Multnomah Campus of Jessup University in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Opener, 25-19, 25-23, 15-25, 25-22.

One streak continued, but one ended for the Beacons (6-3, 1-0 CCC). Winning the first two sets gave the Beacons a new school record streak of 17 consecutive sets won, breaking the old mark of 15 which was set in 2017. The Lions (0-5, 0-1) took advantage to multiple Bushnell miscues to earn the win in set three.

Despite six attack errors in the third, Bushnell finished the night with a .239 attack percentage, breaking .290 in each of the winning efforts. Bushnell weathered a tough night on both sides of the serve as they were aced 10 times and had 14 service errors of their own. The Beacons also out-blocked the Lions, 8-6.

Matty Ladd ended the night with a team-high 11 kills, hitting .500 with three blocks. Fresh off her CCC Player of the Week honors, Leah Agost also had a big night with four blocks and ten kills, including seven in set four and three in the final four points of the game.

Official assist numbers were not available, but Katie Belitz and Katle Palelek combined to coordinate as offensive effort that saw five different players take at least 15 swings. Senior Bella Parque (pictured) added to the efforts with a team-high 14 digs and four service aces. After trailing by as many as six points in the second set, Bushnell had rallied to win, capped off by three straight aces from Parque to seal it.

Multnomah hit .235 in the game, one of the best offensive efforts allowed by the Beacons this season. They were led by JahNay Jardine, posting a match-high 12 kills while Lauren Porter led all players with 17 digs.

The Beacons will return to action at 4:00 pm on Saturday night, remaining in Portland to take on Warner Pacific University (0-2, 0-1).
