EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell men's track & field team took eighth place at the 2024 Cascade Conference Championships, behind the strength of the jumps crew which scored 34 of the Beacons 39 points.
Â
On Friday, freshman
Kaleo Wellman earned himself a runner-up finish in the Long Jump, leaping 6.83 meters (22'5"). It was the sixth-fastest time in school history and the second-best of the season for the recent school-record holder.
Â
His eight points led the Beacons while sophomore
Ty Kishen picked up two points with a seventh-place slot in the same event. The sophomore set a new PR at 6.66m (21'10.25") and posted the seventh-fastest mark in school history, breaking into the top-ten for the first time in his career.
Â
The day also included personal bests for freshman
Wyatt Pepiot in the 400m (53.06) and junior
Brett Olmstead in the Pole Vault (4.05m/13'3.5").
Â
The 4x100m relay team of
David Johnson, Kishen,
Hunter Reininger, and Olmstead also set a new season best for the team, coming in at 43.93 seconds.
Â
On Saturday it was another freshman that set the tone as
Jermaine Schexnayder (pictured) brought home a conference championship and single-handedly scored 16 points.
Â
Schexnayder was the Triple Jump favorite coming in and he didn't disappoint, winning the event with a new school-record leap of 14.89m (48'10.25"). He improved what was already an NAIA "A" standard for himself and will head to the NAIA National Championship with the tenth-best mark in 2024.
Â
He wasn't the only Beacon to score in the triple jump as Kishen followed in fourth-place, landing a new PR at 13.97m (45'10") for the ninth-best mark in the Bushnell record book. Wellman followed in sixth-place to score three more points.
Â
In the High Jump, Schexnayder added his second All-Cascade Conference finish, taking third-place. He broke his own Beacon school record in the process, clearing 1.96m (6'5").
Â
Elsewhere on Saturday, freshman
Logan Gant claimed seventh-place in the 400m Hurdles at 59.89 while the 4x400m relay team of Pepiot, Reininger, Gant, and Kishen set a season-best at 3:27.22.
Â
It is on to the NAIA National Championship for a pair of Beacons who will compete from May 22-24. Wellman has qualified in the Long Jump and Schexnayder will compete in the Triple Jump.
