Thunderbirds Sweep CCC Series

VANCOUVER, B.C. – The University of British Columbia secured a four-game sweep over the Bushnell University baseball team in Cascade Collegiate Conference play, defeating the Beacons 6-4 and 15-9 on Sunday.
 
With the sweep, British Columbia (26-13, 11-5 CCC) moves into third in the CCC standings heading into a road trip at seventh-place College of Idaho. Bushnell (19-18, 6-6 CCC) drops to fourth place in the standings and will host fifth-place Corban in a critical series this weekend.
 
Game One: British Columbia 6, Bushnell 4 (10 innings)
 
Mitchell Middlemiss hit a walk-off home run to lift the Thunderbirds to their third win of the series. Middlemiss finished 2-for-5 with four RBI, driving in the first two runs with a triple in the first before his game-ending two-run shot in the 10th.
 
The game was tied at 4-4 following a two-run double by Daniel Furman in the top of the seventh. Furman also had a game-tying sacrifice fly back in the second, bringing his RBI total to three on the game.
 
Vicarte Domingo (2-2) entered in the top of the eighth for the Thunderbirds, tossing three hitless innings of relief. Ryan Beitel got the start, allowing four runs on seven hits through seven innings.
 
Austin Wolfe had a solid start for the Beacons, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Furman and Jake Stoner finished with two hits apiece to lead Bushnell at the plate.
 
Game Two: British Columbia 15, Bushnell 9
 
Bushnell led 8-6 following a three-run top of the sixth, but British Columbia put up seven runs in the bottom half to pull away and take the series finale, 15-9. The Thunderbirds hit two home runs in the frame, including a three-run blast by Jonny McGill.
 
McGill led UBC with a 5-for-5 performance at the plate, recording four RBI and five runs scored.
 
Daniel Orfaly got the start for the Thunderbirds, allowing eight runs (one earned) on eight hits with seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched. Dylan Myttenar (1-0) got the win after throwing 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits. UBC used three pitchers in the ninth, each recording one out.
 
The Beacons were led by four hits from Kyle Casperson. Isaiah Hart and Cade Crist added two hits each, driving in two runs apiece.
 
Up Next: Bushnell hosts Corban University for a four-game conference series on April 12-13 at the Hamlin Sports Complex.
