SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Bushnell University baseball team opened the weekend with a doubleheader sweep over Corban University on Friday, defeating the Warriors 4-1 in game one and 11-5 in game two at the Hamlin Sports Complex.

Cade Crist hit two home runs in the opener to drive in three of four runs for the Beacons (20-18, 8-6 CCC). Game two was highlighted by a strong pitching performance from freshman
Austin Wolfe, who tallied eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings of work.

Wolfe said, "I am very excited to be part of the sweep today. My team had my back on and off the field and gave me the confidence to go out there and dominate. It's always great to be out there and competing with my brothers every weekend."

Game One: Bushnell 4, Corban 1

After three scoreless innings, the Beacons struck first in the bottom of the fourth as Crist sent his first homer of the game down the left field line and into the parking lot. He added on in the sixth with another no-doubter to left to record homers in back-to-back at-bats.

Albert Jennings hit a solo shot of his own in the seventh to extend the Bushnell lead to 4-1.

Isaiah Hart,
Jordan Wilson and Crist finished with two hits apiece.

Corban was led by a 4-for-4 performance from Joshua Miyazawa. Nainoa Ka'ahanui drove in a run with a double in the fifth. The Warriors tallied 12 hits as a team but were able to put just one run across.

Daniel Furman got the start on the mound for the Beacons, allowing one run on eight hits through 4.2 innings.
Trevor Hammond (6-2) recorded his sixth win of the year after tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and
Alec Gums got his first save, posting a scoreless 1.2 frames.

Game Two: Bushnell 11, Corban 5
Â
Corban (9-28, 4-10 CCC) put up four runs in the top of the first but was held to just one the rest of the way.
Austin Wolfe (3-0) pitched 5.2 innings in the win, giving up just one run on three hits with eight strikeouts.
Max Chapman recorded the three-inning save, allowing four hits in the scoreless outing.

The Beacons tallied eight runs over a three-inning stretch, getting out an 8-4 lead in the fourth. A two-out two-run single off the bat of
Noah Montoya in the third put Bushnell ahead for good.Â

Chase Nye went 4-for-5 with an RBI as the Beacons recorded 15 hits as a team. Furman, who pitched game one, added three hits, while
Kyle Casperson, Montoya and
Ethan Stacy finished with two RBI each. Wilson hit his 10
th home run of the season in the fourth inning.

Aidan Bray (1-5) took the loss on the mound for the Warriors, giving up five runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings. Brad Pellkofer, who had a highlight reel catch in centerfield in game one, and Ka'ahanui finished with two hits apiece.
