COMPLETE RESULTS
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Freshman
Kaleo Wellman (pictured, left) broke a nine-year old school record in the long jump on Friday night, leading the Bushnell track & field teams as they opened the Oregon State University High Performance Meet.
Wellman became the first Beacon to ever break the seven-meter barrier, set the best mark in the CCC this season, and hit the NAIA "B" standard with a leap of 7.23m (23'8.75"). Wellman was the top collegiate finisher in the meet and finished second overall. He surpassed the record formerly held by Javonte Byrd (6.97m), set in 2015.
A host of personal records were set in the men's 200m race as Bushnell went 5-for-5 on improvements. Leading the charge was
Ty Kishen (23.47). Kishen added another PR in the 100m (11.72) and the triple jump (13.68m/44'10.75").
A few other CCC qualifiers made some improvements over the weekend. In the 400-meter hurdles,
Logan Gant improved his CCC qualifying time (59.51).
On the women's side,
Kaitlin Cook had another impressive weekend. On Friday in the 3000m Steeplechase she earned a second-place performance in the 17-woman field. She took another 24 seconds off of her personal best, running in 11 minutes, 39.74 seconds. Already a Cascade Conference qualifier, she is now just nine seconds away from the NAIA "B" standard. Then in the 800m on Saturday she posted another personal best in the 800m (2:23.72).
Leah Schiewe posted a season-best in the Discus (33.68m/110'6.0"), improving her CCC qualification as well.
In the 200m, junior
Maddii Desemone (pictured, right) broke her personal record with a 26.55 and qualified for the CCC championships in her second event.
The Bushnell track season is nearing it's conclusion with just two more events on the regular season schedule next weekend. On Friday, elite qualifiers will compete at Hayward Field in Eugene at the Oregon Twilight and on Saturday a large portion of the team will be in action at the Linfield Invitational.
