Two More Qualify for Conference and One Record Falls

AZUSA, Calif./PORTLAND, Ore.  – The Bushnell men's track & field team split up to compete in a pair of meets this weekend. A few qualified for the Brian Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University in California while the bulk of the roster competed at the Lewis & Clark Invitational.

A total of 14 personal records were hit over the weekend in addition to numerous season-bests.

All three major highlights came at the Lewis & Clark Invite as the Beacons grabbed two more qualifications for the CCC championships and one school record was broken.

Jonathan Paz Perez started things off with a bang on Friday as he took ownership of the Bushnell Hammer Throw record with a toss of 34.01 meters/111'7". He beat a mark of 32.50m set by Logan Oakerman in 2018.

Then on Saturday, Nathan Griffiths qualified for the Pole Vault, clearing the bar at 3.87m/12'8.25". Also qualifying for the conference championships was freshman Logan Gant in the 400 meter hurdles, running a 1:01.38.

The Beacons will take another week off before returning on April 26 for the Oregon State High Performance Meet in Corvallis. Head Coach Kyle Will said, "We are mentally and physically tired, so a week off will do us well. Our results were a little up and down, but even when we don't perform our best, we are learning things that we can work on and it will all come together when we need it to. I have preached all season that it's not until conference that anything matters."
