Bushnell Drops Series Finale at D1 Utah Valley

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley University, an NCAA Division I program, secured the three-game series sweep with a 6-5 win over the Bushnell University baseball team on Saturday.
 
Bushnell (16-12) loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the second, resulting in two runs. Liam Kerr was hit by a pitch, scoring Cade Crist, and Reece Carganilla brought home Caleb Richter with a sacrifice fly to go up 2-0.
 
Utah Valley made it a 2-1 score in the bottom of the third on an RBI-double by Burke Camper.
 
Three scoreless innings followed before the Beacons put up three in the seventh. Bushnell had four consecutive hits in the frame, starting with an infield single from Carganilla. Albert Jennings singled to put two runners on, and Isaiah Hart drove in Carganilla with a double down the left field line. Jordan Wilson continued the rally with a two-run single, scoring Jennings and Hart for the 5-1 lead.
 
The Wolverines cut the deficit to two in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a solo homer from Camper and an RBI-single by Luke Iverson. They then completed the comeback with a three-run eighth. Calyn Halvorson drove in the go-ahead run with a one-out double to make it a 6-5 final score.
 
Taiga Yamane got the start on the mound for Bushnell, allowing one run on three hits in 3.1 innings of work. Austin Wolfe threw a strong 1.2 innings, giving up two hits in the outing.
 
Jennings went 3-for-5 with a double to lead Bushnell at the plate. The Beacons finished with 10 hits as a team, their seventh consecutive game with 10+ hits.
 
Up Next: Bushnell returns to the Hamlin Sports Complex on March 29-30 to host the College of Idaho in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. The Beacons are currently 4-0 in conference play.
