SPOKANE, Wash. – The Bushnell men's track & field team will be sending an athlete to the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships for the first time as Freshman
Jermaine Schexnayder hit the NAIA "A" Standard in the Triple Jump on Saturday at the Whitworth Invitational, taking place inside The Podium.
Â
Schexnayder took third place in the event with a new school-record mark at 14.45m (47'5"). It was the 12th-longest jump in the NAIA this season. Schexnayder wasn't done there as he went on to break his own school record in the High Jump as well, clearing the bar at 1.98m (6'6").
Â
Over the course of the weekend, Bushnell broke or established a total of five school records. The ever-expanding Bushnell indoor program added two more brand new events to the arsenal on Friday, establishing new standards in the weight throw and 4x800 meter relay.
Jonathan Paz Perez posted the weight throw mark-to-beat, tossing a 10.20m (33'5.75") throw. The 4x800m relay team of
Logan Gant,
Sayer Pescosolido,
Wyatt Pepiot, and
Isaac Bodley took second-place and finished the course in 8:52.38.
Â
One of Bushnell's more established school records also fell by the wayside on Friday as freshman
Kaleo Wellman cracked the Long Jump mark not once but three times in his six jumps, finishing with a best distance of 6.78m (22'3"). He clears the record, which had stood for four years, by nearly a foot and a half. He took fifth-place in the 34-athlete field and was the top Cascade Conference jumper.
