Beacons Grab Historic Road Win

GREAT FALLS, Mont.  – The Bushnell women's soccer team won for the first time ever in Great Falls, defeating the University of Providence on their home turf, 2-0.

The Beacons (3-7, 1-3 CCC) overcame a rough start to the contest and dominated the majority of the match as they ended a five-match losing streak, scoring a goal in each half. Bushnell also put to bed a five-match losing streak in road games against UP.

Providence (5-3-1, 2-2) took the first four shots of the game over the first 15 minutes of the game, including three in quick succession in the opening moments. Bushnell keeper Ana Augusto was able to stem the tide, picking up two of her four saves as the Beacons grabbed their first win and shutout of the conference season.

The Beacons out-shot the Argos 8-4 over the final 75 minutes and picked up the game-winning goal in the 24th minute. Stephanie Llanos (pictured) created her own shot, firing a 30-yard strike from the left side of the field into the right side of the net on a ball that the UP keeper had no chance of getting to.

Bushnell continued to play the dominant role in the second half and were able to pull a penalty kick in the 62nd minute as an Argo player had a handball on a Beacon shot. Senior Emily Puita successfully took the PK, giving the visitors an insurance goal and a 2-0 lead that they would not relinquish.

"This was a well fought team win today," said head coach Halle Meadows. "We started the first half slow but after Steph's goal we started chugging along and then with Emily's PK we were able to put the game away."

The Beacons will be back in action on Saturday night, traveling to take on Carroll University at 6:00 pm MT. The Fighting Saints (6-1-3, 3-0-1) defeated Corban on Friday, 2-1.
