Knights Silenced in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore.  – Two second-half goals propelled the Bushnell women's soccer team to victory on Friday afternoon, toppling Warner Pacific University, 2-0, to end a three-match losing streak.

The Beacons (4-10, 2-6 CCC) were out-shot by Warner Pacific (4-7-2, 2-5-1) 14-11 in the game, but held a 9-7 advantage in shots-on-goal. Senior Goalkeeper Lexi Bates had to work for the shutout, earning seven saves, all in the second half as she was peppered by the WPU attack.

Bushnell got on the board with the game-winner in the 63rd minute. Emily Puita (pictured) threaded a pass into Lanaeya Botelho at the top of the box, who spun toward the goal and fired a shot into the top right shelf, catching the Knights off guard with a perfectly placed strike.

Stephanie Llanos provided the insurance goal in the 83rd minute, taking a throw in and making a fantastic move to beat her defender and fire a ten-yard strike past the Knights keeper.

"This was one of the cleanest and most detailed games the ladies have played this season," said head coach Halle Meadows. "We possessed the ball most of the game and put a few in the back of the net. I was super impressed with the team today and now we can build off of this win moving forward."

The Beacons return to action on Saturday, meeting with Multnomah (5-5-4, 3-3-2) at 12:00 pm. The Lions tied with Corban University on Friday, 0-0.
