Agost Serves Up a Beacon Victory

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.  – The Bushnell volleyball team posted 11 service aces on Saturday, including a career-high seven off the hands of sophomore Leah Agost, leading to a 21-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-23, 15-12 road victory over Oregon Tech.

Much like the night before, Bushnell was playing from behind early as the hosts claimed the first set. Once again, the Beacons also bounced back to take the second set, one that featured the first long service rally for Agost. The déjà vu continued in set three as the Owls responded with another win, putting Bushnell up against the ropes.

The Beacons were able to accomplish what they couldn't on Friday, claiming that fourth set to force the tie-breaker. Bushnell never trailed in the fifth set and had built a 9-2 lead after Agost again held serve for six straight Beacon points.

"We will take the split on a tough road trip," said Head Coach Jason Corwin. "I really liked seeing our team fight to the finish tonight. We came up short on Friday but found a way against a really tough Oregon Tech team."

Bushnell (9-4, 7-2) hit .129 in the match, held an 11-7 advantage in service aces and out-blocked the Owls, 11-6. Matty Ladd led the attack with 11 kills while Neumann and Agost posted ten kills apiece with Neumann also securing a piece of five blocks.

Agost said, "This weekend was challenging and competitive. We took Friday's loss and learned from it. Tonight, we showed how much better we can be and we competed and worked for every point. I couldn't be prouder of every person on this team. Each day we strive to get better and improve and it is what drives us."

Brooklyn Dechent once again led the team in the block with six, while Bella Parque collected a team-high 23 digs. Peyton Ritchie led the Beacons with 20 assists. "This weekend was full of tests and battles," said Ritchie, "but tonight we showed that we are gritty and can come back from being down two sets to one. We are continuing to improve each day."

Oregon Tech (6-10, 4-5), who also lost in five sets to No. 4-ranked Corban University on Friday night,  hit 154 on the night and out-dug the Beacons, 72-56. Molly Grace was the story for the Owls as she matched OIT's all-time single-match record with 28 kills, adding 11 digs for the double-double. Paige Tevelde posted a match-high 56 assists while Kaley Whalen led all players with 26 digs.

With the win, the Beacons move back into a tie for third-place in the CCC with Southern Oregon. Bushnell will close out the first half of the CCC slate next weekend, returning home to face No. 1-ranked Eastern Oregon on Friday and The College of Idaho on Saturday.
