KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Â
Lexis Canyete-Asato scored the lone goal of the match in the 13
th minute as the Bushnell University women's soccer team shut out Oregon Tech to earn their first Cascade Collegiate Conference win of the season on Friday night.
Â
The Beacons (2-3, 1-1 CCC) ended a seven-game scoreless drought against the Owls (2-3-1, 1-2) with the early goal. Canyete-Asato struck from distance, gathering a pass from
Niamhie Taylor-Hughes before launching a deep shot into the net for her second goal of the season.
Â
Head Coach
Halle Meadows said, "It was a good team win today! We were able to put a goal away in the first 15 minutes and kept taking it to them. OIT is a tough team, but the girls battled hard to come out on top. Lex had another great goal and
Lexi Bates came up big for us in goal. Our defense was phenomenal, and
Sydney Petersen was the glue that held everyone and everything together."
Â
An 18-3 shots deficit does not tell the full story as the Beacons were able to lock down on the defensive end after securing the early lead. The Owls managed six shots on frame, nearly equalizing the match near the 74-minute mark.
Lexi Bates made a critical save in a 1v1, and
Destiny Navarrete kicked the rebound shot away at the goal line for the team save. Â
Â
Bates finished with five saves on the match.
Â
The victory is the first over Oregon Tech since October 4, 2014. This is just the second loss for the Owls on their home field since the 2017 season and the third loss all-time against the Beacons.
Â
The Beacons look to carry their momentum into a match with Southern Oregon tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
