Beacons Open CCC with Sweep of Lions

EUGENE, Ore.  – The Bushnell volleyball team set the tone for the Cascade Collegiate Conference schedule ahead with a Friday Night sweep over Multnomah University, 25-17, 25-21, 25-12.

The Beacons (3-2, 1-0 CCC) hit .202 on the night, out-blocked the Lions 7-3, and had seven service aces in the victory, holding MU (0-1, 0-1) to a negative hitting percentage with 25 kills and 28 errors in their first match of the season.

Head Coach Jason Corwin said, "I think we did a great job tonight, responding to Multnomah's energy. They came to play, moved well and challenged us and forced us to score points. We responded well in our blocking and on defense. We had some deficits early on but our problem solving and communication led to some success."

Senior Halle Neumann led the way in the first home game of her fifth and final season with the Beacons, collecting nine kills and four blocks. Matty Ladd added eight kills and Leah Agost contributed seven. Elijah Sanders (pictured) posted 12 assists and seven digs while Peyton Ritchie added 11 assists in two sets of work.

Defensively, the Beacons were led by Bella Parque with 19 digs and Celia Hubbard who chipped in six blocks.

Multnomah was led by Maya Blake who took 38 swings and finished with a match-high 12 kills. Eliana Dean and Aiyana Henderson each contributed nine assists while Lauren Porter popped for 16 digs and two both of the Lions' service aces.

The Beacons will be back in action on Saturday, playing host to Warner Pacific (0-8, 0-1). The Lions travel to take on No. 5 Corban University. Both games will begin at 5:00 pm.
