LA GRANDE, Ore. - Freshman Nathan Fields won the Cascade Collegiate Conference Triple Jump Championship on Saturday, leading the Beacons to a seventh-place finish at the conference championships.

Fields not only won the event by six and a half inches, his jump of 14.58 meters (47'10") broke his own school record and landed an NAIA Automatic "A" Qualification, sending the freshman to the National Championships in Indiana in two weeks.

Along with his ten points in the Triple Jump, Fields accounted for a total of 19 points as he earned fifth-place finishes in the 110m and 400m hurdles, and participated in the fifth-place 4x400 meter relay as well.

The Beacons scored 42 points, the fourth-highest total in school history, and tied for seventh place. "What a great meet for our student-athletes," said Director of Track & Field Tom Boldon. "Between our men's and women's teams, it wasn't just seven school records, but it was the 19 lifetime bests, the 12 athletes competing at conference for the first time and the seven who scored for the first time as our teams finished seventh."

Boldon added, "Both of our relay teams bounced back from disqualifications in the 4x100's on Friday and had season bests in the 4x400m on Saturday. It was a weekend to remember. We had so many athletes who out-performed their seeding to score points."

Bushnell's other big jumper on the weekend was sophomore Hunter Reininger, who earned a third-place finish in Friday's long jump to grab his first All-Conference honor. Reininger recorded a career-best 6.89 meter (22'7.25") jump and had the event lead heading into the finals. Two Eastern Oregon jumpers were able to overtake him on their final attempts, but the 16th-seeded sophomore was able to record a third-place finish. Reininger's jump was the second-best score in Bushnell history, and the top mark in eight years. It also goes down as the best leap ever for a Bushnell jumper at the CCC Championships.

Another key point contributor for the Beacons was senior Jaron Carter, scoring 9 points and picking up a school record along the way. On Friday he posted a school-record in the 400m, topping his own standard with a 49.19 run. He took fourth place and missed out on a podium finish by just six 100ths of a second. Carter went on to take sixth-place in the 100m event on Saturday, posting a 10.77 for the third-fastest time in school history. He also scored as part of the 4x400m relay.

Other highlights for the Beacons included:

Freshman Alec Carne took sixth-place in the 5000m race to score three points.
Freshman Ty Kishen took sixth-place in the triple-jump with a huge PR to score three points.

"The future is bright," said Boldon, "not just because of the talent coming back and the talent coming in, but because these kids are amazing people. they represented our school so well and we are so blessed they are Beacons."
