EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell men's and women's track & field teams head to La Grande, Oregon, this week for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships. A number of athletes are expected to score points for the Beacons, with plenty of potential to earn spots on the podium.
Men's Preview
Freshman
Nathan Fields is expected to earn plenty of points for the Beacons as he will compete in four individual events, along with the 4x400m relay. He is currently the top-ranked triple jumper in the CCC, having set a new school record at 14.26 meters this season. He will also compete and should score points in the long jump, 110 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles in his debut trip to the conference clash.
Senior
Jaron Carter is also expected to be productive for the Beacons, competing in the 100m, 400m, and both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Carter is a three-time All-CCC performer and the defending Cascade Conference Champion in the 100 meters, but his best chance at the podium this season is in the 400m where he recently broke the school record and is seeded third.
With the top-eight finishers in each event scoring points for their team, the Beacons have plenty of other opportunities as they look to out-perform their 17-point, eighth-place performance from 2022:
- The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams are both seeded sixth
- Freshman Jermaine Richards is the No. 7-seed in the high jump
- Freshman Ty Kishen is seeded fifth in the triple jump
Women's Preview
A total of 16 women will be making the trip to conference for the Beacons. Leading the way is freshman
Janea Robertson, who has qualified in six events, including both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. She is seeded in point-scoring position in three individual events.
Another multi-qualifier is senior
Jenae Usselman, who looks to end her collegiate career with a bang in the triple jump, discus, and javelin. She is seeded eighth in the javelin.
Perhaps Bushnell's best shot at a podium finish is junior
Libby Mathis, who comes into the CCC Shot Put seeded fourth. She broke Bushnell's school record this season in the event (12.50m).
Other Beacons seeded in the top-eight for their events include:
