CORVALLIS, Ore. – Nearing the end of his storied career with the Beacons, senior
Jaron Carter etched his name into the record book once again on Saturday with a new Bushnell record in the 400m, set at the Oregon State High Performance Meet.
Â
Carter, who is Bushnell's record holder in the 100m and holds 16 spots in the sprinting top-ten lists, can now claim the 400m record at 49.30 seconds. He passed the previous record of 49.36, set by Shawn Johnson at the 2021 Cascade Conference championships.
Â
Carter also qualified for the CCC championships in the event, where he ranks fourth. He is now a three-event qualifier for the Conference championship in two weeks. Â
Â
Director of Track & Field
Tom Boldon said, "We are so proud of Jaron. He was stuck with the outside lane, but after strategizing with Coach Walcott, came up with a plan to be aggressive and attack the race from the start. It paid off as he pretty much led from start to finish."Â
Â
Quite a few other personal or season-bests were set by the Beacons during the two-day event. On Friday,
Nathan Fields shaved a second-and-a-half off his 400m hurdles time (56.27), moving up to No. 3 in the Cascade Conference. His time also ranks sixth in Bushnell history and was the fastest time for a Beacon in four years.
Â
Alec Carne also had a big weekend for the Beacons, setting new PRs in the 1500m (4:05.09) and the 800m (1:58.34). The freshman now holds Bushnell's best times in the season in three events, adding his 5000m time to the mix.
Â
Freshman
Gavyn Laing also set three personal records over the weekend in the long jump (5.90m/19'4.25"), 100m (11.55) and 200m (24.04).
Â
Other Highlights:
The Beacons will close out the regular season next week looking to add the finishing touches onto a strong conference contingent. A select few athletes are expected to qualify for the University of Oregon Twilight on Friday while even more will compete on Saturday at the Linfield Invitational.
