CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho swept visiting Bushnell University on Saturday in Cascade Collegiate Conference play, defeating the Beacons 11-1 and 5-2.
The Yotes improve to 26-15 overall and 10-8 in conference play, while the Beacons drop to 21-21 and 9-9 in CCC action.
Game 1: College of Idaho 11, Bushnell 1 (7 innings)
The Yotes tallied 16 hits to run rule the Beacons in the opener. Nick Eliason (6-1) struck out 11 and allowed just one run on five hits in the seven-inning outing. Tristen Garland and Alex McFarland went 3-for-4, while Kirby Robertson finished with four RBI on two hits.
C of I took a 2-0 lead in the fourth before posting five runs on six hits in the fifth, extending the advantage to 7-1. The Yotes added two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to seal the 10-run victory.
Bushnell got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth as
Jacob Richardson scored on a bunt single by
Ethan Stacy. The Beacons then loaded the bases on the fourth consecutive hit of the frame with no outs but were unable to get a run across, stranding all three runners.
The Beacons were held to one hit the rest of the way.
Game 2: College of Idaho 5, Bushnell 1
Bushnell's offensive struggles continued in game two as the Beacons were held to five hits on the game and struck out nine times.
Jordan Wilson hit a solo home run in the top of the second to make it a 1-0 lead for the Beacons. The Yotes tied it up in the bottom half before using a pair of homers in the third to make it a 5-1 advantage. Skyler Sadora hit a three-run shot that was followed by a solo blast by McFarland.
Cayden Delozier hit an RBI-single in the top of the eighth to narrow the Beacon deficit to three.
Ben Gaff relieved Yotes' starter Kirby Robertson in the ninth, retiring the side in order to record the save. Robertson (7-3) allowed two runs on five hits in his eight innings of work with nine strikeouts.
