Â
Game 1: Bushnell 11, Oregon Tech 0 (7 innings)
Â
The Beacons used a six-run second inning and a five-run fifth to end Saturday's opener via the seven-inning run rule. All six runs in the bottom of the second were unearned due to an Owl fielding error that would have ended the inning.
Â
A three-run shot over the right field fence from
Ethan Stacy highlighted the frame as the Beacons tallied all six runs with two outs. Another big inning in the fifth put the game out of reach. A double by
Brandon Reed followed by an RBI-single from
Jacob Richardson and a
Liam Kerr two-run homer made it an 11-0 advantage.
Â
Trevor Hammond (2-1) made his first start for the Beacons and recorded the win andÂ
Colby Knutzen finished off the game. Hammond allowed just three hits in five innings before Knutzen threw the next two, giving up two hits.
Â
Cody Dubray (0-4) got the start for Oregon Tech, allowing six runs (zero earned) in 1.2 innings of work.
Â
The Owls were led by a 2-for-4 performance from Matt Ortiz.
Â
Game 2: Oregon Tech 10, Bushnell 4
Â
The Beacons were unable to get the same production off a nine-hit second game. The Owls broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh, scoring on a wild pitch and a two-run double from Alonzo Vergara. OIT put up another three-run frame in the eighth and made it five consecutive innings of scoring with a run in the ninth.
Â
Richardson blasted his first collegiate homer in the fifth, a two-run shot down the left field line before
Kyle Casperson recorded his second home run as a Beacon just two batters later.
Jaxson Fraser brought in the final run for the Beacons with a single in the bottom of the ninth. The trio finished with two hits apiece on the game.
Â
The Owls were led once again by Ortiz, who hit 3-for-4, while Julien Jones and Ian Peters added two hits each. Â
Â
Brendon Talonen started the game for the Owls, allowing three runs on four hits through five innings. Riley Cronin (3-2) threw four strong innings in relief, giving up one run on five hits to record the win.
Â
Adam Sabatino started game four for the Beacons, allowing two runs on six hits.
Jack Horn,
Jayden Soriano (1-2),
Trenton Hough and
Daniel Furman made appearances in relief. Furman allowed a run on no hits in his two innings of work.
Â
