Bushnell and OIT Split on Friday

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Bushnell University split with Oregon Tech in Friday's Cascade Collegiate Conference doubleheader, taking the opener in a 8-6 comeback victory before falling 14-7 in game two at the Hamlin Sports Complex.
 
Game 1: Bushnell 8, Oregon Tech 6
 
The Owls had a 5-1 lead entering the bottom of the seventh, holding the Beacons to just three hits to that point. A pair of walks put two runners on before Jordan Wilson brought them home with a three-run homer down the left field line.
 
Jaxson Fraser followed with a two-out double and crossed home on a triple down the left field line by Ethan Stacy to tie the game at 5-5. Peyton Hino reached on a throwing error, scoring Stacy to give the Beacons the lead.
 
Wilson recorded his fifth RBI of the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth to make it an 8-5 advantage for Bushnell.
 
Ka'ala Tam got the Owls within two with a leadoff homer in the ninth, but Daniel Furman did not allow another hit and the Beacons sealed the game on a double play.  
 
Patrick Arman threw 6.2 innings for the Owls, allowing five runs on five hits. Ryan Poling (4-2) took the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits in 1.1 innings of work. OIT left 12 runners on base on the game.
 
Ethan Sachs got the start for the Beacons, going four innings, allowing three runs on six hits. Kai Keamo (2-2) pitched the next three, giving up two runs on two hits. Jayden Soriano threw the eighth and Furman closed out the ninth to record his second save of the season.
 
Six of Bushnell's nine hits went for extra bases.
 
Game 2: Oregon Tech 14, Bushnell 7
 
It was a rough outing for Bushnell pitchers in game two as the Beacons finished with a combined 11 walks and five hit batters. Alec Gums (4-3) took the loss in the start, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits through 3.2 innings. Bushnell also tallied four fielding errors on the game.
 
The Owls finished with just a two-hit advantage over the Beacons, 12-10, and left 13 runners on base. Tyler Horner hit 2-for-4 with four RBI, including a two-run triple to give the Owls the lead in the fourth inning. Sean Tobin went 3-for-4 with four runs scored.
 
Lalo Barraza (7-2) went 5.2 innings for the Owls, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits. Braeden Bellum pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and struck out six, before Drake Aboud recorded the final three outs.
 
Jeff Fripp and Wilson recorded two hits apiece. Cade Crist hit a two-run homer to center to highlight the Beacon scoring. 
 
Up Next: Bushnell (20-17, 8-6 CCC) and Oregon Tech (26-14, 13-5) wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
