NEWBERG, Ore./PORTLAND, Ore. – A pair of distance records fell on Sunday as the Bushnell men's track & field team competed at both the George Fox Indoor meet and the University of Portland meet.
Â
Competing at George Fox for the first time this season, were led once again by freshman sprinter
Isaiah Davis. After leading a 58-runner field in the 60-meter preliminaries with a jaunt of 7.02 seconds, Davis improved to 7.01 in the finals and took second place. Senior
Jaron Carter also competed in the finals and took fifth place with a season-best time of 7.10.
Â
George Fox also produced the first jumps and hurdles competition of the season, including a 6.00-meter debut for
Nathan Fields in the long jump.
Â
The biggest races, however, came at the University of Portland, where sophomore
Noah Mancione and freshman
Alec Carne both took down three-year-old distance records.
Â
Mancione took 14th-place in the Mile, coming in at 4:35.59, while Carne broke the 3000m record with a time of 8:57.20, good for 16th.
Â
The Beacons also claimed a fifth-place finish in the 4x400m relay as the team of
Jermaine Richards, Carter, Davis, and
Jonathan Rosebrook ran a season-best time of 3:37.76.
After the event, Director of Track & Field
Tom Boldon said, "Overall it was a really good day for the Beacons, as 27 athletes were in competition, giving them each more opportunities to see where they are this early in the season. As a coaching staff we were very pleased with what we saw, knowing that we have a ton of potential for much more to come!"
Bushnell will be back in action next weekend, returning to Seattle to compete in the Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Washington on Friday and Saturday.
