Defense Leads to Offense in 22-Point Victory

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Bushnell defense kept the Multnomah Lions in hibernation on Saturday night, as the offense roared its way to a 99-77 victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

The Beacons (5-3, 2-0 CCC) shot 58% from the field and were 10-for-19 from three-point range as they remain one of five teams to still be undefeated in Cascade Conference play. Bushnell held MU to 40% shooting, out-rebounded the Lions 41-32, and had five blocked shots in a defensive showcase.

"We played a great game all-around defensively," said Head Coach Eddie Alexander. "I was really proud of the guys and the way they came out and established themselves on the defensive end. It fuels out offense and we were able to get going early."

After an 18-point performance off the bench in Friday's win over Warner Pacific, Cory Johnson got the start on Saturday and made the most of it, shooting 7-for-9 from three-point range to lead all players with 29 points. Coach Alexander said, "Cory and several others played extremely well, but that young man was unguardable this evening."

Stevie Schlabach shot 8-for-12 from the field to score 19 points while Tony Frohlich-Fair came off the bench to score 15 points with seven assists and six rebounds. Spencer Hoffman picked up a double-double as he scored ten points along with a game-high 12 rebounds.

"It was great to see Spencer on the boards again tonight," said Alexander. "Stevie was super-efficient, and I felt like Kaden Sand's presence on the defensive end was the catalyst for our victory tonight."

Fohlich-Fair added, "I felt good about the game tonight. I think everyone stepped in with the absence of Alexis Angeles this weekend. We started with intense defense from the gate which allowed our offense to get going. I felt like I stepped up handling the ball and bringing defensive intensity."

"I have complete confidence in my work ethic and in myself," said Johnson, "because of all the shots and work I put in every single day."

Multnomah (4-3, 1-2) also had four players in double-figures, led by 21 from Marje Windfield off the bench. The Lion reservice finished the game out-scoring the Bushnell bench, 44-26.

The Beacons are in the midst of a long road-trip which includes the first five conference games. Next up will be a trip to Salem on Friday night to take on Corban (4-2, 2-0) at 7:00 pm.
