Bushnell Defeats Evergreen For Third Win in CCC Action

SPRINGFIELD, Ore.  –  The Bushnell University women's soccer team recorded their third win in Cascade Collegiate Conference action, defeating the Evergreen State College, 3-1, in Friday evening's contest at the Les Schwab Sports Park.

Head Coach Halle Meadows said, "Evergreen came off a good win against Multnomah and we knew we couldn't underestimate them. We were able to get a quick one off a free kick from Lex and then Niamhie played an incredible ball to Emily, who was able to put another one away. Some mistakes in the midfield that allowed them to get a goal on us, but we answered with another before the half."

Bushnell improves to 4-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play. The Geoducks drop to 1-7-1 overall and 1-5 in CCC action.

Lexis Canyete-Asato hit another impressive strike from distance to get the scoring started, sending a free kick off the crossbar and into the net for her third goal of the season. The goal gave the Beacons a 1-0 advantage in the 11th minute.

Emily Puita doubled the Beacon lead in the 28th-minute, gathering a pass from Niamhie Taylor-Hughes before winning a 1-v-1 with the Geoducks' goalkeeper. Evergreen got on the board six minutes later thanks to Cayla Muenchow.

An own goal by the Geoducks put the Beacons up 3-1 at the break in what turned out to be the final goal of the match. Ruby Daniels sent a hard angled shot that was deflected straight into the net by a Geoduck defender.

Bushnell finished with a 14-5 advantage in shots, holding Evergreen to just two shots on frame. Lexi Bates and Natalie Romero split time in goal for the Beacons. Daniels, Puita and Dina Hayes finished with two shots apiece.

Amity Brookshire got the start for Evergreen, recording seven saves.

"We have another big game tomorrow, so we need to get the kids healthy and ready to go," said Meadows. "Go Beacs!"

Up next, the Beacons host Northwest University on Saturday at 7 p.m.
