SPRINGFIELD, Ore. –  The Bushnell women's soccer team celebrated Senior Night with a win on Saturday night, defeating Warner Pacific, 2-0, at the Les Schwab Sports Park.

Halle Meadows said, "We connected well, had many chances and were able to put a couple away. This game was for our seniors. Go Beacs!"

Lexis Canyete-Asato scored for the Beacons in the 30
th minute of play, taking a shot from the corner and curving it into the net.
Niamhie Taylor-Hughes took the first touch on a corner kick, tapping it about a foot before Canyete-Asato took her swing for her fourth goal of the season.

Emily Puita made it a 2-0 lead for Bushnell with under four minutes to go, putting away her third score of the year. Taylor-Hughes assisted on the goal, recording two in the match.

Bushnell (5-4-2, 4-2-2 CCC) outshot Warner Pacific (5-8-1, 2-6-1), 17-10, including a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal. Puita led the Beacons with six shots, five on goal.
Myla Chow and Canyete-Asato added two shots apiece.

Kate Pomerinke got the start in goal for the Knights, recording 10 saves.

Up next, Bushnell hits the road to take on Eastern Oregon (Oct. 20) and the College of Idaho (Oct. 21).

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

Meadows said, "Our seniors have been through it all and have persevered. They welcomed the new players this year and led this team in a turnaround season. Their wisdom, hard work and drive are perfect examples of how leaders should be. They will all be truly missed."

Faith Palmer
Â
Faith has been with the Beacons for three seasons. She has played in 29 games, making 13 starts. She is a two-sport athlete with the Beacons, also competing with the women's track team. Faith is member of the Athletic Directors Honor roll and was an NAIA Scholar Athlete. Coach Meadows said, "Faith is a leader and a joy to be around. She was always one of the hardest workers on the field! So happy we had the privilege of getting her for a 5th year and now she's a master!"

Allison Moreno

Allison has been with the Beacons for two seasons, playing in ten games after transferring from Yuba College. Coach Meadows said, "Allison is a hard worker and always hits bangers. Her physical health has prevented her from thriving but did not hinder her spirit. Always keep growing Allison!"

Ency Soto Jacobo
Â
Ency is in her second year with the Beacon soccer program after transferring from Hartnell College. As a junior, Ency was named to the athletic directors honor roll in both semesters and was a Distinguished Scholar Athlete with a 4.0 GPA in the fall. Coach Meadows said, "Ency surprised and impressed the team and coaches. Her ability to fly through the air and her soft-spoken jokes made her loved by all. We wish her nothing but the best in the future!"

Niamhie Taylor-Hughes

Niamhie is in her first season with the Beacons and has made a huge impact in the midfield, playing in all nine games and averaging over 75 minutes per game. She has scored one goal this season and assisted on two game-winning goals in conference play. Coach Meadows said, "Niamhie is a baller and a leader by example. As our captain, all looked up to her and were amazed by her talent. After transferring from school to school, Niamhie finally found her home as a Beacon. #Seniorseason!"

Lindsey Estes

Lindsey has been with the Beacons for two seasons, playing in 19 games after transferring from Otero College. Lindsey was a member of the Bushnell Athletic Director's Honor Roll in the spring. Coach Meadows said, "Lindsey always brings a smile to her teammates and coaches faces. She's lightning quick and is always working hard. She will do great things in her life and can't wait to see her begin her coaching career!"

Taylor Morgan

Taylor has been with the Beacons for four seasons, playing in 32 games and making two starts. She has earned Academic All-Conference honors and has been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll twice. Coach Meadows said, "Taylor always pushed others around her to be the best they possibly could be. She demanded perfection from herself and her teammates and always strived to achieve that. So excited for her future!"

Madison Bender

Madison has been with the Beacons for two seasons, playing in 17 games. In her first season, Bender played every minute in goal Bushnell, collecting 108 saves which was the fifth-highest total in school history. Coach Meadows said, "Maddie was a Beacon on our team. She was most improved at her time with Bushnell, and not only did she take care of business on the field but also in the classroom as she is graduating early! Congratulations Mad, we are so proud!"

Sophia Castillo

Sophia has been with the Beacons for four seasons and has played in 18 games. During her career, she has been on the Athletic Directors Honor Roll multiple times and in 2022 she was honored as the winner of Bushnell's Athletic Training Perseverance Award. Coach Meadows said, "Captain, leader, commander. She worked her butt off day in and day out and pushed others around her to do the same. She led the team by example in her work ethic and perseverance. So proud of you Soph and we love you!"
