Beacons Fall to Corban in Four

EUGENE, Ore.  – For the second time this season, the Bushnell volleyball team took a set off of the No. 6 Corban Warriors, falling in four sets 25-20, 25-21, 24-26, 25-12.

The Beacons (11-7, 9-5 CCC) battled one of the best defenses in the country as they hit just .087 on the night with Corban out-digging the Beacons 78-52 and out-blocking Bushnell 14-7. Corban (19-3, 13-1) held a 58-36 advantage in kills and hit .211 on the night.

After two closely contested sets went to the visitors, Corban looked to be in control and in route to the sweep, leading 19-10 in the third set. The Beacons caught a little fire of their own, using an 11-4 run to climb within two points, 23-21 and forcing a Warrior timeout.

After trading points, Corban held match-point at 24-22 but the Beacons used a block from Makenna Mosher and Halle Neumann to spark a four-point run to steal the third-set win.

Corban made a few changes in their rotation for the fourth set, namely switching which setter was in the game while All-American Rylee Troutman played the front row. The adjustment worked will for the visitors as Troutman had five of her 15 kills in the decisive set while Nadeiah Howard picked up nine of her 23 assists.

The Beacons were led by eight kills apiece from Amyah Semau and Matty Ladd while Celia Hubbard added seven kills, hitting .357 with three blocks. Mosher ended her night with four blocks to lead the team while Bella Parque secured a team-high 17 digs. Katie Belitz earned 16 assists, adding eight digs and a pair of service aces.

The Warriors were led by Troutman's 15 kills, but it was Emma Bischoff's performance in the middle that kept Corban on top, securing 11 kills and nine blocks. Allyson Reid also had 11 kills, hitting 444, and posting four blocks while Makayla Roginski scored nine kills and five blocks. Abby Guindy led all players with 28 assists while Marisas Uechara posted a match-high 18 digs. She also scored half of the team's eight service aces.

With the loss, Bushnell slips to sixth-place in the CCC but remain just a game-and-a-half out of third. Corban, meanwhile, takes over sole possession of first-place with the victory, one half game ahead of No. 3 Eastern Oregon.

The Beacons will remain home this weekend, taking on Lewis-Clark State (7-12, 6-8) on Friday at 7:00 pm. Walla Walla (1-14, 1-13) pays a visit on Saturday night at 9:00 pm.
