MEN'S BASKETBALL

Friday 1/20 at Warner Pacific, 7:30 pm (Livestats | Video Stream)
Saturday 1/21 at Multnomah, 5:00 pm (Livestats | Video Stream)

The Beacons (6-11, 4-7 CCC) hit the road this weekend, looking to bounce back from a tough weekend at home that saw a pair of losses to Eastern Oregon and No. 1 College of Idaho

RECORD WATCH: Junior Stevie Schlabach is closing in on a few Bushnell records. He has now hit 519 field goals on 1013 field goal attempts. He needs just 17 buckets and 16 attempts to set new all-time records in both categories, records which were set by Hall of Famer Mitch Naylor from 1995-1999. Schlabach is also currently sitting at 1383 career points which sits 70 points behind Naylor for third all-time.

CCC OUTLOOK: Hitting the half-way point of the Cascade Conference schedule, Bushnell currently finds themselves in a tie with LC State for eighth-place. The next 11 games will go a long way to determining the top-eight, which qualify for the conference tournament. Sitting on top is The College of Idaho, undefeated at 11-0. Eastern Oregon (9-2), Corban (8-3) and Warner Pacific (8-3) round out the top four.

CONFERENCE/NAIA RANKS: The Beacons are currently ranked fifth in the CCC in scoring (82.2 points per game) and tenth in defense (82.4 ppg allowed). They are now one of just four teams that are allowing more points than they are scoring. Bushnell leads the conference in three-point shooting as the only team shooting above .400 from distance. The Beacons are hitting 40.3% which ranks fifth in the NAIA. The team remains No. 2 in the conference and third in the NAIA in free-throw percentage (.787).

Individually, Spencer Hoffman is fifth in the conference in scoring (16.8 ppg) while Stevie Schlabach is tenth (15.6). Hoffman is also third in rebounding (8.8 rpg) and fourth in field goal percentage (.605).  Schlabach leads the conference in three-point percentage (.563) and is fourth in free-throw shooting at 87.7%.

WARNER PACIFIC: The Knights are one of the hottest teams in the conference, coming in as winners of five of their last six games as they are currently tied for third-place in the CCC. WPU is eighth in the CCC in scoring (78.8 ppg) and seventh in defense (76.8 ppg allowed).

Warner Pacific has three players averaging double-figures in scoring, led by Thomas Miles, who is the top scorer in the conference. His 19.1 points per game ranks 43rd in the NAIA. At 81.6%, WPU is the top free-throw shooting team in the nation, and Miles leads the charge at .913. He is also one of the top statistical defenders in the conference, averaging 2.4 steals per game.

The Knights and Beacons have faced off 54 times, dating back to the mid 1980's. In that time, WPU has amassed a solid 39-15 advantage, and have won three of the last five meetings. The Knights won in Eugene back in December, 78-74 in a game that saw nine lead changes and eight ties.

MULTNOMAH: Like the Knights, Multnomah comes into the weekend having won five of their last six games. They are alone in sixth place as they fight for their second straight post-season appearance after qualifying for the CCC tournament for the first time ever in 2022.

The Lions are second in the CCC in scoring, averaging 85.8 points per game while allowing the fifth-most points per game in the conference at 79.7. Multnomah ranks second in the CCC for both assists (17.0 apg) and steals (9.2 spg) and they have more offensive rebounds than any team.

Zach Richardson averages 17.4 points per game to lead the team. He is fourth in the conference in scoring while Tyrese Taylor is close behind in seventh, averaging 16.1 ppg. They are the highest scoring duo in the CCC.

Bushnell holds a 17-4 lead in the all-time series, but over the past three years, the Lions lead it 4-3 including an 87-82 point victory in Eugene last month.
