Warriors Shock Bushnell in Four Sets

EUGENE, Ore.  – The Bushnell volleyball team hit the road on Friday and came out with a 3-1 loss at the hands of Lewis-Clark State College, 21-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-20).

On the doorstep of October, it was just the first loss for the Beacons (11-7, 6-4) all season that came at the hands of a team not ranked in the NAIA's top-25. Allowing LC State to hit .258, it was a tough outing for the Beacons as they collected just 39 kills and were out-blocked 9-7.

"Lewis-Clark was ready to play and caught us flat footed tonight," said Head Coach Jason Corwin. "They outplayed us in every phase of the game and we just couldn't find our groove. We played hard, we played together, but we didn't play well enough to win."

The Warriors (10-5, 6-4) took advantage of any opportunity they were given, led by a match-high 14 kills from Grecia Ung Enriquez. Lisi Langi added 12 kills while Jada Wyms collected six kills and a match-high five blocks including three solo efforts. Esther Kaliponi led the team with 24 assists while Kenzie Dean tied for the match-high with 20 digs.

Callie Wilkins also had 20 digs for the Beacons while Shay Coons added 13 kills. If there were a silver lining for the Beacons it was the play of Makenna Northern who collected 28 assists and 12 digs while adding four blocks. Her sixth dig, which came in the second set, gave her 1000 digs in her career, making her the first non-defensive specialist in school history to achieve the milestone.

Bushnell will look to get back into the win column as they wrap up the first half of the conference schedule on Saturday night, facing Walla Walla (0-8, 0-8 CCC) at 8:00 pm.
