PHOTO GALLERY | EUGENE, Ore. – Goals from
Sydney Petersen and
Emily Puita lifted the Bushnell University women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory in an exhibition game with Willamette University on Sunday evening.
Â
Bushnell played in front of one of its largest crowds as every Beacon team met up at Civic Park to watch the contest. Prior to the match, all returning athletes went to local neighborhoods to collect donations for FOOD for Lane County.
Â
Sydney Petersen got the Beacons on the board in the 14
th minute of play. The sophomore collected a pass from
Blake Danna and sent her shot between two defenders, just over the reach of Willamette's goalkeeper.
Â
The Bearcats nearly evened the score in the 32
nd minute but the goal was called back due to offisides.
Â
Less than five minutes into the second half,
Emily Puita increased the Beacon lead to 2-0. A long pass into the box from
Brooke Molina slipped out of the keepers' hands and Puita took advantage of the misplay.
Â
The Beacons out-shot the Bearcats 10-9 on the match, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Puita led Bushnell with four shots, three on goal.
Madison Bender recorded two saves in the shutout.
Â
The Bearcats were led by Aanya Friedeman's three shots.
Â
Up next, the Beacons return to Civic Park to host George Fox on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 4:30 p.m.
