Beacons Blustered and Flustered in K-Falls

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.  – Forced to contend with windy weather and despite out-hitting Oregon Tech in both games, Bushnell was swept in a CCC double-header on Saturday as they lost a pair of one-run games.

The Beacons held late leads in each contest and pounded out a total of 29 hits, but ten errors on the day proved costly as the visitors fell 13-12 in the opener and 7-6 in the second game.

Head Coach Tommy Richards said, "It was a tough day in Klamath Falls. Our execution in all phases wasn't good enough to win at this level. We had plenty of opportunities but failed to do the little things required to be successful. We need to be better for longer and take advantage of the opportunities we are given."

The losses drop Bushnell to 7-7 in Cascade Conference action and the Beacons dip to fourth in the standings behind OIT who improved to 6-4.

Big offensive numbers came from up and down the lineup, led by Jeff Fripp who collected six hits on the day. Brendan Frazier, Kyle Casperson, and Jacob Stoner each had four hits. For Stoner, it was a 4-for-4 game one while Casperson (pictured) had two hits in each game including a pair of doubles in game one.

Bushnell pitchers combined to allow 26 hits on the day, but one bright spot came in the second half of game two as Jayden Soriano closed out the contest. The freshman struck out four batters and allowed just one run on four hits over the final three innings of work. "My mentality was to work one pitch at a time and try and help my team out," he said. "I need to control what I can control. Now we need to keep moving forward and work to get a clean 27 outs on the defensive side."

Bushnell and Oregon Tech will play two more on Sunday, beginning at 11:00 am.
