EUGENE, Ore./McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Seven conference qualifications were earned and a host of personal records were set over the weekend as the Bushnell Track & Field teams competed simultaneously at the University of Oregon's Hayward Premiere and Linfield College's Jenn Boyman Memorial.
Â
For the women, junior
Rebecca Kuskie (pictured, left) led the charge, finishing third in the 1500m race at Linfield. Her time was a personal record and a conference qualifier as she came in at 4 minutes, 53.79 seconds. That same race also featured the collegiate debuts for freshmen
Alsea Diffenderfer (5:28.90) and
Hannah Scott (5:40.60).
Â
Director of Track & Field
Tom Boldon said, "We had good things happening today in Eugene and McMinnville. I am so proud of Rebecca for her lifetime best and Aneykah ran a gritty race for a huge PR. It was great to have Alsea in action, after missing the entire cross country season due to injuries. She is going to be very, very good."
Â
Also at Linfield,
Libby Mathis qualified for CCC in the Discus (31.38m), her second conference qualifier, and
Dakota Underwood officially qualified in the shot put (10.67m). For the men,
Santiago Galindo (pictured, right) posted personal bests in both heavy implements as well.
Â
"Libby and Santiago are really just getting started," said Boldon, "so it will be fun to see their progress, and Dakota has tremendous potential this season."
Â
Meanwhile the Beacon men's sprinters were making noise back in Eugene. Hayward Field was the home for
Jaron Carter's outdoor season debut as the junior qualified for conference with team season bests of 11.10 in the 100m and 22.62 in the 200m. Carter and previously qualified
Ashton Williams will be joined at the CCC championships by new qualifier
Jacob Sanders in both the 100m and 200m.
Â
Other highlights from the weekend included:
- Mayah Pappas took second place in the long jump at Linfield, leaping 5.27m to miss her season best by just two centimeters.
- Aneykah McCall shaved 23 seconds off her PR in the 1500m.
- Sierra Janikowski narrowly missed the CCC qualifiying time in the 400m Hurdles (1:12.49).
