Beacons Split With Yotes

EUGENE, Ore.  – Bushnell posted a 13-3 seven-inning run-rule victory in their first ever game against The College of Idaho and took a split on the first day of their four-game series with the Yotes.

It was a strange pair of games for the Bushnell offense, as the team exploded for 17 hits in the first game only to turn around and take 17 strikeouts in a 4-3 game-two loss.

Head Coach Tommy Richards said, "I thought in the first game we put together competitive at-bats pretty consistently and managed the strike zone. In the second game we struck out way too many times, swung at the wrong pitches and we were constantly on the wrong side of the count."

He added, "The pitchers did a good job all day long and gave us chances to win. Abbott did a great job setting the tone in game one. Sabatino kept us in game two when he didn't have his best stuff and Hough competed really well and won a lot of pitches."

Jameson Hussey, who hit home runs in both ends of the double-header, said, "Our offense was hot today in game one and we were able to put them away early. We only used one arm which was just and we did a good job of getting deep into their bullpen which will help us out tomorrow."

Bushnell moves to 9-22 overall while the College of Idaho sits at 19-18. The teams remain tied for second-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference at 7-3.

GAME ONE: Bushnell 13, College of Idaho 3 (Seven Innings)

The Beacons won their second run-rule game of the season in the opener, exploding for six runs in the seventh inning to seal the deal.

Noah Montoya and Daniel Furman had three hits apiece for Bushnell as Montoya picked up his third RBI on a game-clinching single in the seventh.

Abbott Haffar (3-4) made history as the first Beacon to register a complete game, throwing all seven innings and striking out six batters. He gave up four hits with only one going for extra bases.

GAME TWO: College of Idaho 4, Bushnell 3

A pair of Yote pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts in game two, yet Bushnell remained in the game until the very last out.

A scoreless contest through three innings, C of I eventually built a 3-1 lead, only to see the Beacons tie the contest with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

The game remained tied into the ninth, when the Yotes claimed the advantage for good with a two-out RBI double. With Bushnell down to their final two outs in the bottom of the frame, Reece Carganilla hit a triple down the right field line. Bushnell wasn't able to bring him home to end the contest.

Adam Sabatino started the game and went 5.2 innings. Trenton Hough (0-2) threw the final 3.1, giving up three hits and just the one run.

The teams will play another pair on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 am.
