COMPLETE RESULTS
McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Bushnell outdoor track & field season got underway on Saturday as the Beacons competed at the Linfield Icebreaker. After the first competition, all signs point to a strong year ahead.
Â
The debut weekend takes place before the official start date for the NAIA outdoor season, thus no CCC or NAIA qualifying marks are recorded, but that mattered little to the athletes as they produced a number of strong results and combined to hit multiple "would be" qualifying marks.
Â
On the women's side,
Adrienne Mai led the way, taking second-place in the 400m with a time of 1:01.50. She also joined
Mayah Pappas,
Aneykah McCall, and
Sarah Phillips in the 4x400m relay, which won their heat and took fifth overall. Head Coach
Tom Boldon said, "Adrienne had a great day with a really smart 400 and a solid anchor leg in the 4x4. It was a nice bounce back from some hamstring issues during the indoor season."
Â
Pappas also took third-place in the long jump (5.22m) while
Faith Palmer claimed fourth in the high jump (1.47m).
Dakota Underwood added a top-five finish as well, taking fifth in the shot put. She saved her best throw for last, tossing 10.61m.
Â
For the men,
Jacob Sanders provided a top-ten finish, earning seventh-place in the 100m with a time of 11.31. His time was 1/100th of a second better than the conference-qualifying time. "After two years serving our country in the military, Jacob's return to the track was a good one and a sign of things to come," said Boldon. "Once he gets all of the rust knocked off and works on some technical things, he is going to be very good."
Taylor Huffman also scored what would have been a CCC mark in the javelin, tossing 47.57 meters. Â
After the "soft" opening this weekend, the Beacons roll into the full-fledged outdoor season next week and they do so locally, competing at Lane Community College in Eugene at the LCC Open on Saturday.Â
